2009 Event #9 - No-Limit Texas Hold'em

We had a light turnout of ten players but it was a tough battle reguardless. We started with 25,000 chips and it lasted until 1AM. The first elimination was Knud Dahlgaard after two hours of play, Shawn was next lasting three hours and I was next getting one outed by John Kern, John pushed all-in with sevens and I called with queens, Jeff said he folded a seven but unfortunately the case seven hit the flop, leaving me with twenty thousand with the blinds at 1000/2000, I was eliminated about six hands later when I pushed with fours and was looked up by Mike Wiedmaier with queens, a queen on the flop and I was done. A couple minutes later Mike Wiedmaier went all-in with rockets and John called with queens, again a queen on the flop and Mike was out, but as we all know John never gets lucky as he has reminded us numerous times, not that I am bitter or anything. LOL John Beyer was the next Kern victim, followed by Jeff Aiani who managed a short stack the whole night brilliantly, but his A5 couldn't muster a chop with Mike Cummings A7 as the turn and river ran 2 then 3. That brought us to the bubble and Mike Sible could not hold on anymore as the blinds were just too much for his short stack and Tony took him out. Tony was the next to go at the hands of Mike Cummings and that brought us to heads up play with Mike up against John Kern. Heads up lasted less than ten minutes. John (Dealer) (53.5%) pushes ALL-IN and Mike (46%) makes the call. The flop comes , no help for Mike, the turn is the and the River comes . Mike does not catch and John wins for the sixth time in nine games. It must have been all skill because as John said before, he never gets lucky. Congrats to John for his win and a strangle hold in the league lead, he will again have a $20 bounty on his head in our next tournament on July 11th and the game will be the much awaited HORSE. Well I am headed off to Vegas and I will see you next month.

2009 Event #8 - No-Limit Crazy Pineapple

With fourteen players at the table and 20,000 in chips it only took an hour to get our first elimination and it was the first time John Beyer has bounced out first. Mark Wardecki was the next to be eliminated after having success in his first few tournaments. Pat Hayes finally had enough of bad cards and went all-in with a set of threes on the flop but Shawn Brown had flopped aces full and Pat was out in twelveth. Level four was the end of the road for Beau Sierra, myself and then Mike Sible and with that we had our final table. Chad Pedke, Mike Cummings, John Kern, Steve Whitecotton, Knud Dahlgaard, Jeff Hicks, Todd Ransom and Shawn Brown completed the table. Chad was the first to go at the hands of Mike Cummings. A half hour later we had a double elimination as Jeff and Todd were eliminated by Mike. Mike was not done as he proceeded to knock out Shawn on the bubble and then he knocked out Steve for a fourth place finish. John was out in third as Knud flopped a two outer and the Pilgrim was ANGRY!!! With the blinds at 2500/5000 and an hour and a half of heads up play we had our final hand, Knud (Dealer) raises to 15,000 and Mike calls, the flop comes Mike bets 20,000 and Knud goes ALL-IN and Mike calls, Mike throws away the two of clubs and Knud discards the four of spades, they turn up the cards and Knud is in bad shape as he needs to hit an ace. The turn comes and the river is . Mike has won his first tournament of the year. Congrats to Mike for his win and hopefully he can make four more events to qualify for the Main Event. Our next tournament is Saturday, June 13th at 7:30, hope you can make it.

2009 Event #7 - No-Limit Texas Hold'em

We had fourteen players and started with twenty thousand in chips. Pat was the first to go after a cooler hand in which he flopped a set of eights and Lee flopped a set of queens, it all got in on the turn and Pat was down to about 5000, later Pat and Lee were heads up on a QJJ flop, Lee bet and Pat pushed All-in, Lee thought Pat had a jack and decided to call with Q8, Pat however turned over AA, a queen on the river and Lee took the pot. Mike Wiedmaier was the next to go as he raised and I raised enough to put him All-in and he called with AJ but he was facing elimination and my AK, I hit a king and Mike was out. Level five was very active as Mike Patula was sent home in twelveth by John Kern. Mark Wardecki called against two All-ins with AK against Mike Sible's KK and Jeff Aiani's JJ, but an ace on the flop and two more were gone. A few minutes later Jeff Proctor was eliminated by John Beyer in ninth place and we had our final table. Chuck Hayes, John Kern, Shawn Brown, John Beyer, Mark Wardecki, Tony Broaddus, Lee Pearson and Steve Hay rounded out the final eight and with the final four making the money there were only four eliminations to go. Tony was the first to go at the hands of Mark. Then Mark proceeded to eliminate Lee, John Beyer sent John Kern home and collected the bounty. With that we were at the bubble and I decided to push with Q 10 and Mark called with A2 of clubs and to our amazement Mark made a straight flush on the river and I was out. About twenty minutes later John was knocked out by Mark and then another twenty minutes later Steve was gone and Mark claimed his seventh victim of the night. The heads up battle went back and forth with each combatant taking the lead multiple times, they both thought they were done and managed to make a comeback when finally after an hour of play we had our final hand. Shawn (Button/Sm Blind) (55%) pushed All-IN and Mark (44%) was covered an made the call. The flop came and Shawn(85%) takes a commanding lead. With the turn of Mark(18%) gaines four more outs to make a straight. The river is the and Shawn takes his first win of the season. Congrats to Shawn on his win and big jump in the standings. Mark with only two tournaments appears to becoming a contender with a first and second place finish already in the books. The next tournament is Crazy Pineapple on May 23rd, hope to see everyone there as this one will be an action packed tournament.

2009 Event #6 - Limit Seven Card Stud

Yes it is true John Kern has won again. It only took a major suck out against Mike Sible when Mike had rolled up eights and John hit a boat on sixth street, Mike layed it down but was crippled. Maybe John can stop bitching about not winning. LOL

2009 Event #5 - No-Limit Texas Hold'em

We had sixteen players show up to battle it out for the fifth event of the season and four players have qualified for the Main Event. Players started with 20,000 in chips so we had alot of play before the first player busted out as everyone had made the break except for Angel Quinn who was knocked out by Leon Morford just before the break. Table two was becoming the action table as Knud Dahlgaard knocked out Todd Ransom in fiftenth. Leon claimed another victim in Jeff Proctor on the very next hand. The Main Table saw it's first player fall in Pat Doherty as his pocket sixes could no beat John Beyers pair of queens. Level five saw a couple of eliminations as Steve Hay could not hold on as he was eliminated after his seventh All-in and was KO'd by Leon. Shortly afterwards I took out the only stack shorter than mine as I sent John Beyer to the rail. Leon was far from done as he eliminated Dave Riggs in tenth place. Mike Sible pushed All-in and it folded to me in the big blind and with less than a min raise I reluctantly called with my 8-2 off and spiked a duece without Mike pairing up and he was gone. That set up our final table of myself, Leon, Mike Gordon, Mark Wardecki, Beau Sierra, John Kern, Knud and Chad Pedke. Only eight minutes in Chad went All-in on a seven high flop with pocket tens only to find Mike was holding the rockets, Chad could not find a ten and he was gone. Leon later locked horns with Knud and came out the victor and claimed another victim. Level 7 was not good to me as I called Beau's All-in with pocket aces after the flop and was up against a straight draw, with a ten on the river to make Beau's straight I drowned on the river. With five players left we were looking for bubble boy and John Kern pushed with pocket tens against Mike's AK, nothing on the flop or turn for Mike but the river spiked a king and John was left with 500 in chips. John was all-in on the next hand and quadrupled up to 2000, but on the next hand he was knocked out by Leon and Leon collected John's bounty. At about 12:30 the action was fierce as Beau's night ended at the hands of Leon and then ten minutes later Mark eliminated Mike in third place. That brings us heads-up with Leon with a 2-1 chip lead against Mark. There was a swing hand as both flopped a set of tens and were All-in but Mark's kicker 9 was enough to take the pot and the chip lead. Only a hand or two later we had our final hand, the blinds are at 2500/5000, Mark (82%) on the button raises and Leon (18%) raises ALL-IN and to Leon's suprise Mark snap calls and shows him the bad news. Flop comes no help for Leon, the turn comes , flop is the and Mark wins his first tournament ever played here. Congrats to Mark for his win. Our next tournament will be Seven Card Stud on Saturday April 11th at 7:30, hope to see everyone there.

2009 Event #4 - No-Limit Texas Hold'em

With fourteen players showing up at thefelt only one has proven he has what it takes, it is becoming the year of the Angry Pilgrim. Noone has been able to stop John Kern this year and this night was no different. Jeff Hicks and Steve Hay were able to make their first event this season and they were both treated to early exits Jeff went out in fourteenth and Steve was eliminated in twelveth. Knud couldn't hook any of his hands and was out in thirteenth. Level five saw two players eliminated as Mike Wiedmaier was ousted by Lee Pearson and I eliminated Steve Whitecotton. Even though Lee eliminated Mike he was shown the door a half hour later by Mike Sible. Just before the second break Jeff Aiani's night was brought to a conclusion as he was sent packing by Dave Stern. Beau Sierra was shown some family love as Chad Pedke sent him packing in seventh place. Chad was not done as he knocked out Jeff Proctor and then Mike Sible on the bubble. Play slowed for about an hour until at 1:30 I was eliminated by John in fourth place. Fifteen minutes later Dave was out in third and John collected another victim. John had about a 2:1 chip lead as the final hand took place. Chad was the dealer (45%) and John (28%) pushes All-In and Chad makes the call. The flop comes and it is a good flop for Chad (36%) for at least a chop and John (17%) needs a runner-runner. The turn brings the and Chad (70%) is in great shape to double up but the river is the and John sucks-out for the win as he makes the wheel. There is a bright side to this as we won't have to listen to John say that he never wins as this should be enough to shut him up for years. So as in the last three events there will be another twenty dollar bounty on John's head and hopefully on March 14th someone can collect it other than John. See you at the next game.

2009 Event #3 - Pot-Limit Omaha

Eleven players bellied up to the felt to vie for the Pot-Limit title for the '09 season. It took an hour and a half before we saw our first elimination and it was a double as a once very short stacked Tony Broaddus eliminated Knud Dahlgaard and Pat Hayes at the very end of level three. Meanwhile at the Main Table Jeff Aiaini also saw his night end at the hands of John Beyer right after Knud and Pat were eliminated. Level four claimed a couple victims as Mike Sible called Steve Whitecotton's all-in to find out he was drawing dead with four pair due to Steve hitting a set of aces on the turn. Ten minutes later Tony was all-in against John Beyer but could not catch up and he was sent packing. Play slowed down for an hour when I pushed the action and Shawn called as I had a pocket pair of aces and Shawn had top pair but could not improve. Eventhou I eliminated Shawn I was still short stacked and pushed the action again against Mike Wiedmaier as a battle of the blinds ensued with me leading out with a pair of aces and Mike reraised with two pair, my hand did not improve but Mike pulled out a straight on the river and I was gone in fifth place. Fourty minutes passed and Mike was sent home in fourth place and bubbled, thanks to John Kern. Toward the end of level seven John Beyer was sent to the rail by John Kern. With John having a two to one chip lead, Steve did not hesitate to push the action and within a couple hands Steve took a slight chip lead. But that was not eneough as Steve flopped a straight and John had a king high flush draw and was able to river a spade to cripple Steve. That brings us to our final hand with the blinds at 1500/3000, Steve completes the bet with (56.7%) and John (43.3%) checks his option. The flop comes and John (79.8%) pushes ALL-IN and Steve (20.2) calls with his overpair to find out he needs some help to John's two pair. A on the turn and a on the river does not help Steve and the tourney is over, John not only takes this years Omaha championship but has a strangle hold in the league standings with over twelve-hundred points to second place's five-hundred. Congrats to John for his third in a row, a first here. The next game is No-Limit Hold'em on February 27th at 7:30, hope everyone can make it.

2009 Event #2 - No-Limit Texas Hold'em

There were fourteen players at this event and the action at the main table was ultra-aggressive as the first level saw a half dozen all-ins, mostly by Steve Whitecotton after his set was out drawn by pocket aces to give Mike Patula a flush on the river and leaving him with less than two thousand in chips. But I was running bad as well and Steve caught a king on the river and he doubled up thru me, couple hands later Steve found the rockets and I had big chick and call his raise, an ace hit the flop and I pushed all-in to find I was completely dominated and I was the first victim after playing only twenty minutes. Steve was not done pushing chips around as he called John Beyer's all-in with a straight flush draw and Steve caught the flush and John was gone in thirteenth place. Play calmed down a little bit and about an hour later table two claimed Scott Bell at the hands of Sal Rossolille. Still play was slow and almost another hour passed when Bill Franzese was sent to the rail by Lee Pearson and almost simultaneously Mike Patula was eliminated by John Kern. Level six still wasn't thru as Steve found himself outside looking in as he was knocked out by Chad Pedke. That set our final table with Lee Pearson in seat one, John Kern, Mike Sible, Chad Pedke, Beau Sierra, Shawn Brown, Knud Dahlgaard and Sal Rossolille, but Sal was not long for the haul as he was sent down the road by John Kern in about five minutes. Level eight proved to be the level in which players could not stand the heat of the blinds of 1500/3000 and Shawn was dismissed by Chad Pedke followed by Mike being eliminated by Lee. At the end of the level Knud couldn't out flop John and he was gone and then Beau lay victim by Lee and Beau was out in fourth and in the money. But even with the couple of knockouts Lee could not prevail as he was eliminated by John for a third place finish. That brings us heads-up with Chad and John going toe to toe sort of, with John having a commanding chip lead. Chad would not go quietly and battled John for almost two hours but John would not relinquish any chips and kept the chip lead the whole time. That brings us to the final hand with Chad (Dealer) (12%) going ALL-IN and John (85%) calling. The flop came and John has a virtual lock on the hand and only needs to avoid a queen for a chop or an almost impossible nine - nine for quads but the turn brings the and the river was the . John takes down back to back tournaments and has a commanding lead in the league standings. Hopefully we can put a stop to that. The next game is February 27th and we will be playing Omaha, hope everyone can make it. Congrats to John on his win and we'll see you next time.

2009 Hangover Hold'em (Event #1) Tournament

Twenty players showed up to battle it out to see who will be the champion of this 5th annual event. Everyone started with 20,000 in chips and the first victim was Knud Dahlgaard who could not hook on any of his draws and was gone at the hands of Chris Bork. Level four saw Jeff Aiani eliminated by Mike Rotger and Chris Bork was railed by Mike Wiedmaier. Only minutes later Dan Gravett was felted by Steve Whitecotton to finish out the level and consolidated us down to two tables. Level five was quiet until the end when Mike Rotger's afternoon was cut short by Mike Wiedmaier and the Steve Whitecotton claimed another victim in Greg Vandenberg which brought us down to fourteen players remaining. Level six with blinds at 700/1500 a third of the remaining field would not see the next level. It started with a double knockout by Skip Lewis taking it to Mike Sible and Pat Hayes. Five minutes later Mike Gordon pushed all-in into my big slick and was dominated with the ace eight, no help for Mike and he was gone. Minutes later Dave Riggs found his kicker was not big enough and he was gone at the hands of Pat Doherty. At the end of the level Jeff Proctor was gone and John Kern claimed his first victim. Level seven was another level filled with action as Skip was eliminated on the bubble of the final table by John Kern. But just as we were going to consolidate John Beyer was sent to the rail by Brad Henkin and we were down to seven. That set our final table of Chuck Hayes, Steve Whitecotton, John Kern, Mike Wiedmaier, Sal Rossolille, Brad Henkin and Pat Doherty. The action remained fierce as Pat was eliminated by John Kern then I was eliminated by Brad Henkin and Sal was eliminated by Steve all within ten minutes. Action settled down for almost an hour when Steve could not get around John and he was out in fourth. Brad was the next to hit the rail in third as he fell victim to Mike Wiedmaier. With the blinds at 2500/5000 the last hand played out as Mike (dealer/sm. blind) (46%) calls the blind and John (53%) checks, the flop comes and John(75%) bets 5000 and Mike(25%) calls. The turn brings the , John(100%) checks and so does Mike, the river is the and John checks and Mike goes All-in and John snap calls and wins this year's Hangover Hold'em season opener. Congrats to John 'Angry Pilgram' Kern for his first Hold'em victory, the next tournament is January 23rd at 7:30 hope everyone can make it.

2008 HOHO (Hold'em/Omaha) Tournament

Fifteen players showed up to battle it out at the felt looking for the HOHO crown. We started the night with twenty thousand in chips and the antes were removed from the usual blind schedule. Play went for about an hour when Pat Doherty's eights full of queens fell to Jeff Proctor's eights full of kings while playing Omaha. Level three Knud Dahlgaard was eliminated by Chuck Hayes during Hold'em. Level four the eliminations picked up as Iain Wilson was sent to the rail by Jeff Proctor at table two and Brian Schmid was eliminated by Ken Vranek at the Main table a minute later. Five minutes later Pat Hayes was sent packing by me. That brought level five and back to hold'em and I called Ken's raise preflop, Ken hit top pair as I hit middle pair and a gut-shot straight draw, the turn was a miracle card for me as Ken went All-In and I called with my straight and with that Ken was gone in tenth place. I was not done yet as I caught Steve Whitecotton and promptly sent him to the rail only eight minutes later. That set our final table with myself, John Beyer, Kathy Vranek, Shawn Brown, Tom Deegan, Mike Sible, Lee Pearson and Jeff Proctor. The last hand of level six playing Omaha, Mike Sible was All-In against John Beyer but could not overcome John's pair of aces and was gone. The seventh level was almost over when Kathy Vranek was all-in and was eliminated by Tom "Chief" Deegan. Level eight there were no eliminations but level nine proved to be a big breaking point as I was all-in and could not hit the board and Shawn Brown took me out. Toward the end of the level Lee Pearson was knocked out by John Beyer and Tom Deegan was eliminated by Shawn Brown. Level ten was almost over but Jeff Proctor found his night end at the hands of Shawn. That brought us to heads-up and playing Hold'em when the final hand fell. John Beyer (Sm. Blind/Dealer) (32%) called Shawn's (66%) checked his option, the flop came , Shawn (45%) checked and John (47%) pushed All-In with his flush draw and Shawn called with his straight draw since John was short stacked. The turn came and the river was , no help came for John and Shawn not only made the money for the first time but he became this years HOHO Champion. Congrats to Shawn for his first win, hopefully it does not become a habit. The next tournament will be the season opener and the 5th Annual Hangover Hold'em on New Years Day, everyone's family is welcome to come as there will be a LCR game for those not wanting to play poker, the Bowl games and Winter Classic will also be on the big screens. Everyone have a Merry Christmas and we hope you can make it New Years Day.

2008 Main Event - No-Limit Texas Hold'em

There were twenty players qualified for the Main Event and all but one was able to make it. The total purse was $3,082.00 and the top 4 players would make the money. With 514,300 chips in play the stacks were realativly deep, but after a couple of coolers Mike Cummings was out first after hitting a full house vs a bigger full house to get crippled and the flopping a flush just to find his opponent had a bigger flush and his afternoon was done. An hour went buy and Steve Hay was All-IN with his queens to find he was up against John Kerns kings and with no help on the board he was gone. Just a minute later Shawn's afternoon was done at the hands of Jeff Hicks, meanwhile at table 3, Lee was ALL-IN against Kathy Vranek and Lee was gone. We consolidated down to two tables, and Knud being short stacked went ALL-IN with K5 suited but Chad Pedke called with ace high and Knud found no help after flopping a flush draw. A couple minutes later Chad claimed another victim and Pat Hayes was eliminated in fourteenth place. Even with taking out two players Chad's fortune was about to change when Ken Vranek called Chad's All-IN and Ken's hand was good enough, and Chad was gone. At the end of the seventh level we had two quick eliminations as Mike Wiedmaier was eliminated by Jeff Proctor and Ken Vranek's A10 was not enough to beat my 88 even though Ken flopped a flush draw and turned a straight draw. The four o'clock hour I turned into the exacutioner as I racked up four victims in a row. The next to fall to my wrath was John Kern when he went ALL-IN with an A5 to my K10 suited and he almost survived until the river king ended his night. A couple minutes later I eliminated Steve Whitecotton and then Mike Sible in eighth place as Mike ran his AJ into my KK. Our final table was set before I knocked out Mike with myself, Iain Wilson, Jeff Proctor, John Beyer, Mike Sible (was in seat 5), Kathy Vranek, Jeff Hicks, Jeff Aiani. The next to leave the tournament was Kathy as she seemed to only have one move of ALL-IN and was finally looked up by Jeff Hicks but did not have enough and was gone. Blinds hit 4000/8000 and the pressure was too much for half of who was left as Jeff Proctor was eliminated by John Beyer. Then with five players left Jeff Aiani suggested a chop of fourth place as both Jeff's and Iain were way out chipped by myself and John. With that deal Iain went ALL-IN and was looked up by Jeff Hicks and eliminated in fifth and cashed $150.00. A couple minutes later Jeff Aiani was ALL-IN and I found pocket nines as they held up and Jeff Aiani also cashed for $150.00. That made it three handed and it just happened that the top three in the standings were all alone to figure who would take home this years championship. Jeff Hicks was the shortest stack and wih the blinds up to 5000/10,000 he just did not have enough amo to compete and was run down in third for a cash of $500.00. Heads-up was a re-run of last years Main Event and John and I were pretty close to even in chips. We battled it out for about twenty minutes when the final hand took place at 6:23. John (Sm. Blind/Dealer) (63%) raised 35,000 and I (36%) called. The flop came and I went ALL-IN as I (21.6%) was getting short and John (78.4%) called, the turn was no help to me (11.4%). I needed a 7 or 8 but there was no miracle on the river as it was the . I cashed for $835.00 and took the runner up spot for the second year in a row. Congrats to John for his second league championship and a cash of $1407.00. I would like to thank everyone for making this a great year, it was a blast. The next tournament will be the 4th annual HO-HO Pot-Limit Tournament on December 19th at 7PM, hope to see everyone there. Until then have a Happy Thanksgiving.
